Plantar Fasciitis Pain

Heel pain Treatment

Pain under the heel bone is treatable

So you woke up one morning with some pain under the bottom of the heel. The first few steps were quite painful but it eased off and you did not think too much more about it.

The next morning you woke up and there was slightly more pain… but you still shrugged it off thinking that it would be a temporary thing.

Now fast forward 2 months and the pain is significantly worse, its hurting all day, every day, the only relief you have is when you are on your cosy couch!

Now by this time you’re starting to think I better do something about this agonising heel pain, I better see a professional. Now this story is one I hear every day in practice, hindsight is truly a wonderful thing.

Morning heel pain is a very common problem and occurs most often in people suffering from plantar fasciitis and heel spurs. The heel pain usually occurs when you first get out of bed. It can last from just a minute or two to up to half an hour. The pain may also occur after sitting for a period of time or after long durations of walking or standing

Heel pain is often always first thought of as plantar fasciitis or heel spurs being the culprit. The major problem with this is that not all heel pain is plantar fasciitis. Heel pain is a term that we give to a number of conditions that can cause pain surrounding the heel bone.

Heel pain can affect people from athletes, to kids, to the more sedentary. Every step you take is endured by your muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones. When everything is working in synergy we can function without pain and tolerate large stresses placed upon our body when something is wrong, pain is our body’s warning sign that it is not quite right.

First things first, we need to take a closer look at this nasty heel pain your suffering from. As you can appreciate there are numerous tendons, fascia, muscle, ligaments, nerves surrounding this area.  Without a medical professional assessment and correct diagnosis it is like playing darts in the dark. It is a guess with very little assurance of its accuracy. A true and accurate diagnosis will enable an optimal treatment plan that will treat your symptoms and fix the causes!

Some of the most tried and true treatments for this problem is stretching,  mobility exercises, strengthening, footwear changes and orthotic or insole therapy.

Every patient we see in our clinic has their own unique causes for their pain and figuring out this is a priority.

Sometimes off the cuff advice from our good friend Doctor Google can provide some short term relief with band aid approaches, but rarely does it address the underlying causes.

We don’t only treat this problem, we have suffered from it and know first-hand how awful and difficult it is to resolve!
